Be Part of the New Leaders Forum

We are pleased to invite you to join the upcoming DCIL Leader Forum, a space we are creating to share experiences, discuss common issues, and more important than anything, support one another in achieving our goal of Independent Living.

Your voice and participation are essential to shaping the direction of this forum. We believe your joining will greatly enhance our shared efforts and help us continue building a strong community free from barriers and exclusion.

Purpose of the Leaders’ Forum

The purpose of the Forum is to:

  • Support and empower DCIL Leaders to take an active role in shaping the direction, quality and future of DCIL supports and activities.
  • Provide a safe and welcoming space for connection, peer support, shared experiences and mutual encouragement.
  • Offer opportunities for learning, workshops, community engagement and awareness-raising.
  • Strengthen engagement and prevent isolation through inclusive and enjoyable social and community activities.
  • Support the Forum in making representations to public bodies, community partners, and elected officials on matters affecting disabled people and independent living.

Enrollment and Sign-Up

To join the Leaders’ Forum:

  1. Interested individuals will complete the Forum registration form.
  2. The leader’s forum facilitator will review and confirm membership.
  3. New members will be added to the Forum communication channels.
  4. An optional orientation session may be provided for new participants.

Membership

Membership is open to:

  • Any DCIL Leader (i.e. a person directing their support through DCIL).
  • A parent or guardian of a DCIL Leader under the age of 18 who wishes to participate on their behalf.
  • Individuals over 18 who can participate independently or with suitable support.

How the Forum Will Operate:

Meetings and Format

Forum activities may include:

  • In-person meetings at DCIL or at other accessible venues as agreed by Forum members.
  • Online or virtual meetings where appropriate.
  • Participation in moderated online discussion platforms maintained or hosted by a forum facilitator.

Frequency of Meetings

  • The Forum itself will decide how often meetings take place.
  • DCIL will support the Forum with coordination and logistics, but will not take ownership or control of the Forum.
