DCIL Garden Party 2026

August 6, 2026

Donegal Centre for Independent Living (DCIL) welcomed leaders, staff and their families to its annual summer party on Saturday, July 4th, at DCIL’s Ballymacool House premises in Letterkenny, for a day of celebration, connection and community.

Fittingly held on Independence Day, the event reflected DCIL’s core mission to support and empower people with disabilities to achieve independent living and actively participate as equal citizens in society by having choice and control over their own lives.

Now established as an annual event, the DCIL Summer Party provides an opportunity for Leaders, staff and their families to come together away from their day-to-day roles, strengthening relationships and celebrating the vibrant community that exists within the organisation.

Although the weather brought a few showers throughout the day, it certainly did not dampen the atmosphere, with a fantastic turnout enjoying an afternoon packed with music, food and family entertainment. Guests were treated to a delicious barbecue prepared by The Kitchen, Letterkenny, while local musician Maria McCormack kept everyone entertained with live music throughout the afternoon.

There was plenty to keep younger guests busy, with a bouncy castle, face painting, garden games and colouring competitions ensuring smiles all round. One of the highlights of the day was the DCIL Singing Competition, which showcased the talent and confidence of many of DCIL’s Leaders. Congratulations went to Niamh Bonner, who was crowned the overall winner following an outstanding performance.

Speaking following the event, DCIL CEO Rosaleen Doherty said: “Our Summer Party has become one of the highlights of the DCIL calendar. It is an opportunity to bring together our Leaders, staff and families to simply enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

“Independent living is about much more than the practical supports we provide. It is about belonging, building friendships, participating in community life and having opportunities to enjoy social occasions like everyone else. Days like this are a wonderful reminder of the incredible community we have within DCIL, and despite the weather, the smiles, laughter and sense of togetherness made it a truly memorable occasion.

“I would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped organise the event, our volunteers, our entertainment providers and everyone who attended and made the day such a success. We are already looking forward to next year’s Summer Party.”
