Skillvec Programme
“SKILL” stands for Securing Knowledge Intra Lifelong Learning.
The aim of the SKILL Programme is to:
"Educate, develop and train support staff in the health services to the optimum of their abilities in order to enhance their role in the quality of service to Leaders."
SKILL offers training in FETAC Level 3, 4, 5 & 6 accredited programmes. There are eight Modules in total on this course – five compulsory / core and three specific/elective modules.
Five core modules:
- Communications
- Care Support
- Infection Prevention and Control
- Workplace Statutory Policies & Procedures
- Work Experience
Three specific/elective modules to choose from the following 5:
- Person Centred Focus to Disability
- Human Growth & Development
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Occupational 1st Aid
- Caring for the Older Person
2009/2010
We had 11 Personal Assistants who participated the Fetac Level 5 – Skills Project Course with the VEC back in September 2009 have completed their Courses, 2 Personal Assistants withdrew due to family commitments. All Participants are delighted with their results. This reflects their continuous hard work and efforts all year. All Modules had an Independent Living Philosophy influence to ensure that we maintain the appropriate ethos and approach to empowerment and Independent Living.
2010/2011
11 more Personal Assistants begin the same course in September 2010. It has encouraged and awakened potential in our Staff who may have never been offered such opportunities before. The Briefing Sessions on the Course took place prior to the commencement of the Course, as well as a refresher Training session on Independent Living.
